HILLSBORO, Kan. –
Madie McCoy and
Vance Shewey have been named as this week's Hillsboro Ford PowerJays of the Week for their efforts during last week's slate of competition. This marks the first time either athlete has received this award.
HILLSBORO FORD FEMALE POWERJAY OF THE WEEK: MADIE MCCOY, WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Madie McCoy is a Graduate Student from Ottawa, Kan.
McCoy tallied nine points in the Lady Bluejays' gritty win over Saint Mary on Saturday, shooting 50% (3-6) from the field and helping lead the team in scoring. McCoy's two threes proved vital in the low scoring affair and provided a much-needed scoring boost. In addition to her scoring efforts, McCoy brought in five defensive rebounds, blocked one shot, and tallied one assist and one steal. McCoy has been a welcome addition to the Bluejay lineup after missing most of the first half of the season due to an injury.
HILLSBORO FORD MALE POWERJAY OF THE WEEK: VANCE SHEWEY, MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
Vance Shewey is a Senior from Meade, Kan.
Shewey finished tied for 7
th in the Men's High Jump Invite Division at the Owen Hewett Invitational in Norman, Okla. hosted by the University of Oklahoma. Shewey's jump of 1.96m was just short of the NAIA "B" standard of 2.03m, an impressive feat for his first meet of the season. Shewey competed in a loaded field of NCAA DI, NCAA DII, and NCAA DIII athletes, finishing in a tie with two NCAA Division I athletes and finishing ahead of an athlete from the University of Oklahoma.
