TOPEKA, Kan. - The Tabor women's indoor track team traveled to Topeka to participate in the Washburn University Open on Friday, Feb. 2 and Saturday, Feb 3.
The Bluejays put together a couple of strong performances on the track. In the 3000m, senior Brooke Wiebe (10:30.95) just missed her PR by a second, finishing seventh. Fellow teammate, junior Aubrey Bahner (10:36.20) finished eighth and sophomore Kaylee DeAngelis (12:12.37) finished 39th.
Tabor put together a "B" standard fourth place finish in the distance medley relay (12:26.72), with a team of Wiebe, junior Sonya Zimmerman, Bahner and senior Danielle Allison. The fourth place finish was also a school record in the event by over 30 seconds, a record that was set last year with Wiebe, Zimmerman and Allison being a part of that race.
"The highlight of the meet on the track was the women's DMR team qualifying for indoor national - Danielle Allison, Aubrey Bahner, Sonya Zimmerman, and Brooke Wiebe," Head Coach David Kroeker said.
In the mile, Allison (5:18.90) placed 15th and Zimmerman (5:19.02) placed 17th. Zimmerman (2:23.87) placed 23rd and Allison (2:26.66) placed 32nd in the 800m.
"Our women competed well, coming off setting a school record and qualifying for nationals in the DMR. This weekend was a great test to see how our legs would feel with multiple races in them for a few of our women. Looking forward to what we can do at KCACs coming up," Distance Coach Rylan Hincher said.
Going over to the field events, junior Sasha Wasinger (45-00.50) took 24th place in the weight throw and 37th place in the shot put (35-01.75). Freshman D'myia Cox (34-00.25) took 23rd place in the triple jump and 34th place in the long jump (15-02.75).
"I think we are primed and ready for conference in Omaha for both the men and the women," Kroeker said.
The Bluejays will travel to Omaha, Neb. to participate in the KCAC Indoor Championships on Monday, Feb. 12 and Tuesday, Feb. 13. Tickets are now available for purchase at kcacsports.com.
