Brookings, S.D. - In the three-day event for the NAIA Championships, the Tabor women had several noteworthy performances, highlighted by Aubrey Bahner's 11th place finish in the finals.
"I thought we had a very successful national indoor meet!" Head Coach David Kroeker said. "Overall we had a good indoor season as both women's and men's teams."
After finishing 18th and falling short of qualifying in the 5000m (10.16.24) on Friday, Bahner responded on Friday in the 3000m prelims, finishing in ninth place (10:38.66). In the 3000m finals on Saturday, she finished 11th (10:38.66).
"Aubrey had an electric weekend! Really tough 5k prelim but came back and mixed it up to make it to the 3k final! She raced a total of 11,000 meters this weekend and battled the whole way. To make the final in your first national championship on the track is a tremendous accomplishment! Aubrey had an incredible indoor season with big goals for outdoors!" Distance Coach Rylan Hincher said.
Brooke Wiebe and Danielle Allison each had strong performances in the 1000m, but fell short of qualifying for the finals, both missing out by under three seconds. Wiebe placed 10th (2:58.03) and Allison placed 12th (2:58.65).
"Brooke and Danielle ran awesome in the prelims. Unfortunate heat draw and it seemed like everyone with multiple standards, chose the 1k over other events which made making the final a tall task. Brooke ran under 3:00 for the first time and Danielle was right with her," Hincher said.
Allison and Wiebe also competed in the 4x800m relay, along with Hannah Grover and Sonya Zimmerman. Tabor finished in 19th place (9:29.19). Zimmerman would also compete in the 800m prelims, finishing in 16th place (2:19.97).
"Hannah Grover split the fastest 800 of her career and Sonya Zimmerman officially dipped under the 2:20 barrier for the first time in the open the next day. Incredible weekend from all of our athletes!" Hincher said.
"As we look forward to the upcoming outdoor season there is a lot of potential for more excellent performances and the possibility of more national qualifiers. It should be an exciting year!" Kroeker said.
Outdoor track and field season is scheduled to start Friday, March 15 at the St. Mary's Distance Carnival, a distance-only event in Leavenworth, Kan.
