NORMAN, Okla. - After an extended winter break the Tabor Track & Field team opened up the 2025 indoor season with a handful of Bluejays competing in Norman, Okla. in the Owen Hewett Invitational hosted by the University of Oklahoma.
It was a great start to the season with several Bluejays having spectacular performances.
Adrienne Selzer, who just came off a National qualifying season for Cross Country opened up her 2025 indoor season with an 18 second personal record in the 3,000 Meter run with a time of 11:15 securing 1st place.
Sonya Zimmerman also netted herself a 1st place finish in the 800 Meter run with a time of 2:22. Zimmerman was not the only Bluejay represented in the top three in the 800, with
Julianna Maxfield running a 2:25 finishing in 3rd place.
Matthew Veloz, another Bluejay coming off a National qualifying season for Cross Country, also competed in the 3,000 Meter run finishing in 9:38 placing in 6th place. Taegan Gallagher had a stellar performance in the 400 Meter dash with a time of 52.08 finishing in 4th place in a stacked field of 51 competitors. Freshman
Ivan Jirak competed in his first college Track meet where he qualified for the invite section of the meet facing extremely tough competition but was still able to earn himself a 9th place finish throwing the Shot Put 14.16 Meters.
Head Track & Field Coach Aaron Capehart had this to say following the meet "The distance athletes led the way today with two 1st place finishes." He also said he was pleased with the result of the athletes' performance coming back from break with limited training. "Every athlete is in a better place now than when they left for break. There is still plenty of season left and he is excited to build on the successes from this meet and hopefully see many PR's throughout the rest of the season."
The Tabor Track and Field team will be traveling their full roster on the 25th to compete in Pittsburg, Kan. at the NAIA/JUCO Invitational hosted by Pittsburg State University.
