BLUEJAYS DELIVERED AN IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE AT THE KCAC INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

HILLSBORO, Kan. - After competing in the KCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships in Omaha, Neb., the Bluejays experienced significant success, with many athletes earning impressive placements and achieving new personal bests.

On the women's side for the Bluejays, here were the results from the weekend's KCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Senior Sonya Zimmerman had a standout performance, finishing 4th in the 600-meter with a time of 1:41.31. She also teamed up with Julianna Maxfield, who placed 5th, as they secured 4th and 5th positions in the 800-meter run. Julianna continued her strong showing, finishing 6th in the 1000-meter with a time of 3:04.20. Adrienne Selzer placed 6th in the 1-mile with a time of 5:31.66. The pack of three—Aden, Turner, and DeAngelis—finished 10th, 11th, and 12th, respectively, in the 3000-meter. Adrienne Selzer added another solid result, finishing 6th in the 5000-meter. In the relay events, the Tabor women's 4x800 team posted a time of 9:48.49, while the women's distance medley relay took 3rd place with a time of 13:00.67. D'myia Cox delivered strong performances in the field events, placing 5th in the long jump and 7th in the triple jump.

The Bluejays' men's team continued to impress at the KCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships in Omaha. Taegen Gallagher ran a strong race in the 400-meter, finishing 6th, while Matthew Veloz secured 6th in the 1600-meter with a time of 4:26.51. The men's distance medley relay also performed well, placing 4th with a time of 11:18.71. In the field events, Vance Shewey took home the high jump title for the third time, cementing his dominance in the event. Caleb Wehrman, a sophomore, placed 4th in the pole vault, and freshman Ivan Jirak made a strong debut with a 4th-place finish in the shot put. Overall, the Bluejays showcased a well-rounded team performance across multiple events, with standout individual achievements and strong relay results.

Coach Aaron Capehart had this to say on the weekend: "Both the men's and women's team had a great showing with a lot of them scoring in their respective events and setting personal bests. The most exciting part for many of our athletes is that they are hitting marks or times that they didn't hit until April of last year. So, we are on track to have what appears to be a great outdoor season. The highlight though, would certainly be Vance Shewey winning High Jump and moving up to #2 in the nation and becoming the first athlete to ever win high jump 3 years in a row in the KCAC."

Three bluejays will look to head to Nationals, Vance Shewey is their only male National qualifier, and on the women's side Julianna Maxfield & Sonya Zimmerman. They are hoping to get a few other athletes in another meet this upcoming weekend to get them qualified.

The NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championship will begin on February 27th, in Gainesville, Florida.
