FLASHBACK FRIDAY: TABOR FOOTBALL HISTORY VS SAINT MARY

HILLSBORO, Kan. – Tabor College Football returns home to Joel H. Wiens Stadium on Saturday to host the University of Saint Mary in what will be the 25th meeting between the two programs. In this week's edition of Flashback Friday, we will take a look inside the series.

Saint Mary was admitted into the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) in 1999 but did not begin official competition until the 2000 campaign. Tabor promptly welcomed the Spires to the league with a 54-13 thumping. USM earned their first win over the Bluejays in 2002, squeaking by in a 22-15 double-overtime thriller.

In Mike Gardner's first season at the helm of the Tabor football program, the Bluejays earned a hard-fought 30-29 victory to close out conference play 9-1. The win helped solidify TC's first conference title under Gardner on their way to the NAIA Playoffs.

Interestingly enough, Tabor's win in 2000 is the highest margin of victory over USM, and the win in 2004 is the smallest margin of victory.

The record in the last 10 meetings between the two programs is nearly even, with Tabor winning six times and Saint Mary winning four times. The Bluejays' win in 2024 snapped the Spires' three game win streak.

Saturday's matchup should be nothing short of exciting, as the two longest tenured coaches meet on the gridiron yet again.
