HILLSBORO, Kan. – Saturday marks what should be yet another fun-filled Saturday of Bluejay Football at Joel H. Wiens Stadium. This week, the Bluejays line up against Saint Mary in the 25
th all-time meeting between the two programs. There are always unique storylines to follow, but perhaps the most interesting one to focus on is that this week pairs the two longest-tenured head coaches in the conference against one another in Tabor's
Mike Gardner and Saint Mary's Lance Hinson. Both coaches got their start at their respective schools before departing for another job, only to return to the programs they helped build up.
"It's always a good feeling to play at home", said Coach Gardner. "Saint Mary is a team that scores a lot of points, they have a really good offense. Defensively, they do some things that can cause you problems."
"They always play us tough; it's generally a one-possession game. We have to make sure that we're able to protect and pick up the blitzes and do things like that to give ourselves a chance."
"I have a lot of respect for Coach Lance Hinson, he's made a commitment to that school, and they are really lucky to have them. He was an assistant there while I was an assistant here, and then we both took over the head job at both schools in the same year (2004). We both moved on to somewhere else and actually moved back to our respective schools, so our careers really parallel each other."
Bluejay Nation got to enjoy a thrilling victory on the road last weekend at Kansas Wesleyan and is sure in for a treat back at home.
Kickoff is set for 1:00pm and the game will be broadcast live on
Tabor Webcast and
live stats will be available as well.
