COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Bluejays competed in the Gans Creek Classic, facing a diverse field that included DI, DII, and other fellow NAIA schools. After running a 5k at their previous race on September 14th they stepped up to a 6k this week. Junior Adrienne Selzer led the team with an outstanding performance securing 111th place with a time of 23:48. Sophomore Julianna Maxfield followed, clocking in at 24:43.9 placing her at 172nd. Close behind was Sonya Zimmerman, finishing just four seconds later with a time of 24:47.2. Lauren Aden crossed the line with a time of 25:30, while Freshman Lauryn Turner delivered an impressive effort, finishing in 26:26. Juniors Sydnee Gardner and Kylie Arnold along with Freshman Daysha Allison finished in a tight pack. Aidyn White wasn't far behind, coming in at 26:55.2. Sarah Dark, Allison Johnson, and Rory Hawk completed the ace for the Bluejays.
For the Bluejay men, it was a day filled with personal bests. Senior Logan Dybowski led the charge, shaving over a minute and a half of his previous time, finishing with an impressive 26:23; placing him 161st out 388 competitors. Just seven seconds later, Matthew Veloz crossed the line, cutting nearly a full minute from his personal best with a time of 26:30. Junior Justin Morwood followed, beating his season best by six seconds, clocking in with a time of 26:50. Nick Green delivered a strong performance, finishing with a time of 28:18-more than a minute faster than his previous two races. Freshman Wade Ratzlaff and Javin Schmidt also ran solid races in their third collegiate competition. Apostolo Zuniga capped the day with a remarkable improvement, shaving nearly three minutes off his previous best, finishing with a new time of 30:52.
The Bluejays are back in action on Saturday, October 12 as they are set to race at the Carol Swenson Invite in McPherson, Kan.
