OTTAWA, Kan. – The Tabor College Reserve Baseball squad wrapped up their regular season with a doubleheader at Ottawa University on Monday.
The Reserve Bluejays had previously played the reserve teams from MidAmerica Nazarene University and Hesston College in Hesston back on March 20
th, picking up a 12-9 win over MNU before dropping the game with the Larks, 12-10. Following the doubleheader in Hesston, the Bluejays hosted the Kansas Wesleyan Reserve team on March 25
th for a doubleheader and dropped both games.
The Braves came into the series after taking a two-week break after hosting Kansas Wesleyan for a two-game series. The Braves dropped both games, allowing 24 runs over the doubleheader.
Game One: L 9-8
Ethan Eddy and Tyler Epp provided the fireworks with back-to-back homeruns to give the Bluejays a 3-0 advantage. The Braves however would give the Bluejays all they wanted and more, as they snuck away with a 9-8 win. Wyatt Samuels recorded the loss on the bump for Tabor.
"Our bats started really hot when Ethan Eddy and Tyler Epp hit back-to-back home runs to give us the lead 3-0", reflected Reserve Head Coach Drake Girard. "Carson Hein did a good job on the mound for us, pitching three innings and only giving up one run."
"The ball just didn't fall our way that game. Now we have to focus and stay ready for the conference tournament."
Game Two: W 2-0 (3 Innings)
The awaiting weather finally caught up with both teams and brought a premature end to the contest, giving the Bluejays the much needed win after they held the lead going into the weather. Boone Hicks snagged the win on the mound after pitching two complete innings and giving up a single hit.
Coach Girard was impressed with his team, especially Hicks, "Boone pitched really well considering the conditions."
"We have to get refocused for next week when it matters."
The Reserve Bluejays turn their attention to the KCAC tournament next Wednesday in Wichita. More information will be released in the coming days.
