HILLSBORO, Kan. – The cooler temperatures didn't seem to bother the Bluejay Reserve Baseball team. The Reserve squad looked to jump back in action this afternoon against the York University Reserve team. Coming into today's doubleheader, the Bluejays were coming off two straight series sweeps, the most recent being the doubleheader against the Ottawa University Reserve team last Monday. The Panthers were coming off an equally impressive set of swept series', with their most recent being played against Concordia University Nebraska.
Game One
The first game saw the Bluejays battle from behind to earn the win. On the offensive side, Trenton Beck hit a solo homer, Ethan Eddy doubled one and was walked three times after that, and Colby Rice had a 2-RBI double to tie the game.
Head Reserve Coach Drake Girard was pleased with the effort from his team in the come-from-behind win, "Overall, our pitching was decent, and our bats kept us in the game."
Game Two
Things turned out to be very different in the second game, as the Bluejay bats seemed to have found their sweet spot. Eddy and Rice continued to stay hot after having solid games in the first contest. Tyler Epp had the highlight of the day with a grand slam. "Overall, our hitting was immaculate this game", remarked Coach Girard.
Coach Girard shared how pleased he was with the effort and grit from his team, "I am proud of the guys battling through these games and not letting up."
The Reserve Bluejays will have a short turnaround and will make the short trek down the road to Hesston to face the Hesston College Reserve squad. The first pitch of the doubleheader will be thrown at 1pm.
