GODDARD, Kan. – The Bluejay Reserve Baseball team wrapped up their season on Wednesday at the second annual KCAC Developmental Baseball tournament at the Genesis Sports Complex in Goddard.
The Bluejays entered the tournament with a 10-8 overall record and an 8-6 record in KCAC play, coming off a split series at Ottawa back on April 1
st.
Tabor opened up the tournament with a date with Sterling, the No. 3 seed overall. Hunter Dudley threw five innings for the Bluejays and only gave up two runs on two hits. Aaron Dimit went two for two at the plate to help the Bluejays on offense and Tyler Epp provided the fireworks with a solo bomb over left field. Despite the solid efforts on offense, the Bluejays would drop their first game of the tournament by a score of 8-4 and would play for a second chance in the consolation bracket.
"Our bats started hot early and cooled down", stated Reserve Head Coach Drake Girard. "Overall it was a tough loss but we need to look at the next one going forward."
The Bluejays didn't take long to bounce back, as they took advantage of their second chance to keep their season alive with a 6-5 win over Bethany. Boone Hicks recorded the win on the mound after coming out of the bullpen and throwing three innings.
"I'm proud of how the guys bounced back and carried themselves after the loss in the first game", remarked Girard.
Ultimately, the team fell short in the consolation game to Friends, 4-2.
"We played very well this last game despite the outcome. It came down to the very last inning and things just didn't fall our way."
"I'm very proud of how all our guys did this season and loved watching them grow as players and people."
The Bluejay Reserve Baseball team concludes their season with an 11-10 overall record, finishing 8-6 in KCAC play.
