RESERVE LADY JAYS FEND OFF COMEBACK FROM STERLING, PUSH WIN STREAK TO SIX

HILLSBORO, Kan. – The Tabor College Women's Reserve Basketball team took on the Sterling College Warriors this afternoon. The Lady Bluejays, led by Head Coach Kate Brickell, were riding a five game win streak coming into this afternoon's contest, while the Warriors, led by Head Coach Lauren Carmack, were riding a six game win streak.
 
The Bluejays got off to a hot start, outscoring the Warriors 24-10 in the first quarter. Katelin Long led the way in scoring for the Lady Bluejays with nine points in the first quarter, while Malynn Beil and Sally Wine each had four. Makenna Reed hit a three in the middle of the first quarter, while Kaylee Kauffman and Tayton Smith each had two. 
 
The second quarter proved to be more even, with Tabor outscoring Sterling 18-16 to give the Bluejays a 16-point lead at the halftime break, 42-26. At the end of the first half, Long still led the team in scoring with 11 points, while Wine had nine, Kauffman and Jenna Uehling each had five, Beil had four, Reed and Amiya Mack had three, and Smith had two.
 
The Warriors gained some momentum in the third quarter and outscored the Bluejays 17-15, but Tabor would still have a 14-point lead. Long lead the way with 16 points after three quarters of play, while Wine had 11, Uehling had nine, Kauffman had five, Beil and Smith had four, Mack and Reed had three, and Pearson had two.
 
Sterling would outscore the Lady Bluejays yet again in the fourth quarter, 12-9, but Tabor would ultimately hold onto the lead and pull out the win, 66-54. Long would finish as the leading scorer for the Lady Jays with 16, while Uehling would finish with 12, Kauffman and Wine would have 11, Beil and Smith had four, Mack and Reed had three, and Mallorie Pearson would finish with two.
 
Reserve Head Coach Kate Brickell had this to say about her squad's win, "We had a great first half, playing our style and following our defensive keys. In the second half we weren't as disciplined and let them dictate a lot on both ends."
 
The Bluejay women will return to action this coming Monday, February 12th to take on the Bethany College Swedes at home at 7:00 pm.
