RESERVE BLUEJAY WOMEN ROLL TO YET ANOTHER VICTORY

HILLSBORO, Kan. – The Tabor College Reserve Women's Basketball team took on the Friends University Reserve Women's Basketball team on Saturday afternoon. The Bluejay women were coming off a thorough drubbing of rival Bethel College on Wednesday and were looking to do the same thing to the Falcons and sweep the season series between the two teams.

The Lady Bluejays came out of the gate looking to make a statement and that is exactly what happened. At the end of the first quarter, Tabor would have a 21-point, 31-10 lead over Friends. Malynn Beil (11) was a big part of the Bluejays' fast start, while Katelin Long (5), Jaelle Johnson (4), Tayton Smith (4), Kaylee Kauffman (3), Mallorie Pearson (2), and Sally Wine (2) would each contribute to the first quarter total.

The Bluejays would have yet another strong quarter and would head into the locker room at halftime riding a 48-29 lead. Beil and Smith would represent the Bluejays in double-figures, with Beil scoring 13 and Smith scoring 12 respectively, while Kauffman had six, Long and Johnson each had five, and Wine, Pearson, and Makenna Reed each had two.

The Tabor ladies came out of the halftime break with a resurgence of energy and proved they wouldn't let up, outscoring Friends 21-13 in the quarter and holding a 27-point lead. Smith would build on her point total, scoring six points in the quarter to lead the Bluejays with 19. Beil would be the only other Bluejay in double-figures with 13 while Kauffman had nine, Long had eight, Johnson had seven, Wine had four, Wright had three, Pearson, Reed, and Uehling each had two.

The fourth quarter would be more of the same and Tabor would cruise to a 32-point 87-55 win. Tayton Smith would smash her previous career high and tally 23 points, while Beil scored 15 points and Long and Kauffman poured in 11 to round out the team in double-figures. Johnson had seven, Wine had six, Wright had three, and Pearson and Uehling each had two.

Head Reserve Coach Kate Brickell had this to say about the game, "We had a fantastic first quarter today sharing the ball and working to get the team's best shot. I thought in the second quarter there was an opportunity to push the lead out, but we became stagnant and passive against their zone. The second half we were able to extend the lead by working the ball inside/out and scoring in transition. My one critique today is that our defensive principles were not consistent enough throughout the entire game as I thought we should have held them to fewer points."

The Bluejays will be back in action tomorrow against Kansas Wesleyan University. The game will tip off at 1:45pm.
