FLASHBACK FRIDAY: A BRIEF HISTORY OF TABOR COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER

HILLSBORO, Kan. – Tabor College Men's Soccer is deeply rooted in history, but what fans may not know is that the program was one of the first athletic teams on campus.

1957 marked the first season of competition for the Bluejay side as the team took on opponents from the University of Oklahoma, the University of Kansas, Park College (now known as Park University), Wentworth Military Academy (located in Lexington, Mo., closed in 2017), and Pratt Community College. In their inaugural campaign, the Bluejays posted a 2-3-2 overall record.

Success came relatively early for the young program, as they made their first trip to the NAIA National Tournament in 1960, competing as one of only four teams fighting for a national title. In their first trip to the tournament, Tabor fell to Elizabethtown College in the first round and took down State College at Fitchburg (now known as Fitchburg State College) in the third-place match.

The Bluejays followed the success of the 1960 season with another trip to the NAIA Tournament in 1961, making the journey to Lock Haven, Pa.

Tabor would not reach the NAIA stage again until the 2021 season, where then-Head Coach Grant Brubacher led his side to a 12-8-1 overall finish and an appearance in the KCAC Men's Soccer Tournament Championship Game in Wichita.

Now, Head Coach Rafa Marins, has his sights set on returning to the national stage, and it is fair to say that he has his team on a path to do just that.
