JOPLIN, MO - The Tabor College women's golf team wrapped up their season at the KCAC Championship in Joplin, Missouri, with a standout performance from Valencia Andov, who claimed second place overall in a field of more than 40 of the top players in the conference.
Head Coach Mike Jamieson shared praise for Andov's effort, saying, "I was proud of Valencia with her play this week for her last tournament. Our goal was to have two good rounds and one above average. We felt like that's what it would take for her to win conference as an individual. The trick was to not shoot ourselves out of it with one bad round by making too many mistakes."
Andov stayed consistent throughout the tournament, putting herself in contention from the start. "Valencia put herself in position to win only two strokes back with one round to play," the coach added. "With a birdie on her 8th hole she was tied for the overall lead. Unfortunately, a few bogeys the rest of the way moved her into second place, which is still a great accomplishment."
The runner-up finish marks another strong close to a Tabor career for the Andov family, as Valencia follows in the footsteps of her sister Valdisa, who also capped her Bluejay career with a top-five KCAC finish. "I couldn't be more proud," the coach said.
The tournament also marked a significant first for two freshmen, Natalie and Jade, who gained valuable experience in their KCAC debuts. "Natalie played really well the first two days," said the coach. "Jade struggled a bit, but they are freshmen and it is hard. This experience will only help them moving forward."
The Bluejays end their season with plenty to be proud of and a bright future ahead, built on the leadership of upperclassmen like Valencia and the potential of rising underclassmen.
