ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The distance squad from the Bluejay Track & Field team headed to St. Louis for the Washington University Distance Carnival. The Bluejay men and women last competed at the Saint Mary Distance Carnival last week where several Tabor athletes exhibited strong showings. The week's meet featured some of the toughest competition the Bluejays would face on the distance side of things, as it included teams from the NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, and Junior College levels.
Women's 1500m
Danielle Allison got things started for the Bluejays and competed in the women's 1500m race. Allison beat her previous time this season of 4:49.26 and broke the school record of 4:45.24 that she set last year at the Emporia State Relays, with a time of 4:42.81 to finish 16
th overall.
Women's 5000m
Six Lady Bluejays competed in the women's 5000m race.
Hannah Grover finished with the fastest time for the Bluejays, running a time of 18:47.64 and taking 88
th.
Sonya Zimmerman ran a time of 19:16.98, while
Adrienne Selzer came in third on the team with a time of 19:45.74, and
Julianna Maxfield crossed the finish next for the Lady Bluejays with a time of 20:25.10. Sydnee Garner crossed the finish with a time of 20:38.16, while
Kaylee DeAngelis came in with a time of 21:04.25 to round out the Bluejay athletes competing in the race.
Women's 10000m
Aubrey Bahner smashed the previous Tabor College record for the women's 10000m race with a time of 37:41.89. The previous record of 38:55.91 had been set in 2005.
Women's 3000m Steeplechase
Brooke Wiebe decided that Bahner wouldn't be the only one breaking school records for Tabor College on Friday, breaking her own school-record time of 11:14.35, with a time of 11:09.95.
Men's 800m
Dillon Callaway was the lone Bluejay competing in the men's 800m race, snagging a 10
th place finish with a time of 1:52.90.
Men's 5000m
Darren Klukas,
Logan Dybowski,
Ryan Villarreal, and Apostolo Zuniza ran in the men's 500m race. Klukas ran a time of 15:26.46, Dybowski ran a time of 16:21.53, Villarreal ran 16:42.5, and Zuniga crossed the finish with a time of 18:40.86.
Men's 10000m
Ryan Stade made sure to get in on the record-breaking fun, running a time of 31:46.67, after holding the previous record of 31:47.86 in the men's 10000m race.
The Bluejays will be back in action this coming Thursday at the Friends University Open.
