"It was a tough day to play, and the weather was a factor with the wind and cooler temperatures. The scores do say a lot about the day; Avila has a very solid club and we got beat, and we were not very sharp as a group. We did continue to do some things very well however, we were pretty good in the circle with
Marisa Carranza and
Chloe Yturbide-Reader in game one and
Annabelle Buchanan and
Taylor Sheppard in game two."
"Everyone knows it's a miraculous blessing to see Taylor on the field", Brewer said, referring to Sheppard's return to playing this season after suffering a season-ending injury last season.
"Defensively, we had some errors on balls that we usually make, and we must be at our best when we play good teams. Offensively, we did do some good things, but we still leave a lot of runners on base and not able to get them across. Even though we didn't play that well, the team fought for the day. They did not give up and it would have been easy to do. We will get back on course. We have the right people, I love this group and the abilities they have to be successful."
The Bluejay ladies will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Leavenworth to take on the University of Saint Mary. The first pitch of the first game will take place at 2pm and the games will be broadcast live on the
KCAC Network.
