Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz. – Tabor Softball took just enough time to breathe and prepare for more competition after their doubleheader at MNU on Tuesday before flying out to Tucson early Thursday morning. The Bluejays have had a decent start to the season so far, taking a game off a solid Doane squad last week, which was the best a KCAC team has played against the Tigers this season, as well as taking a game off a good MidAmerica Nazarene team on Tuesday. No doubt though, this weekend will be one of the toughest tests yet this season for the Bluejay ladies. The Bluejays are playing in the Tucson Invitational Games, a prestigious early-season tournament for small-college programs which features a loaded field. Tabor would match-up first against University of Puget Sound, an NCAA Division III institution located in Tacoma, Wash., before facing Arizona Christian University in their second game of the day.
Game One (vs Puget Sound): The Bluejays would take on Division III opponent Puget Sound in the first game, which would also serve as the Loggers' season opener. Tabor would give the Loggers a nice warm welcome to the 2024 season by scoring six runs in the 1
st Inning, just three runs shy of the first run rule total, and would continue to pile it on in the 4
th Inning and run rule the Loggers after five innings played.
Annabelle Buchanan recorded a complete game win, to improve to 2-2 on the season.
Head Coach Jeff Brewer had this to say about the first game, "We had a beautiful day to play.
Annabelle Buchanan was in the circle for the and had a really good outing and pitched a complete game to lead us to a 9-0 win. We had some timely hitting behind
Darcy Gillen,
Cheyenne Washington,
Laura Savage and
Reyna Enriquez and had good pitching and played pretty clean defensively."
Game Two (vs Arizona Christian): Tabor would take on the Firestorm of Arizona Christian University in game two. The Firestorm were coming off a solid season last year after just barely missing the NAIA National Tournament and would prove to be one of the Bluejays' toughest opponents to date. The Bluejay ladies would put up a strong fight but would end up falling, 6-2.
"
Marisa Carranza was really good in the circle", said Coach Brewer, "she competed and gave us a chance to win. We had some good at bats from
Darcy Gillen,
Cheyenne Washington,
Reyna Enriquez,
Savannah Evans,
Lauren Roberts &
Dessa Zavala, but left a several runners on base and took ourselves out of some innings with some mental mistakes. We have to get this part cleaned up as we move forward."
