Box Score Hillsboro, Kan. The Bluejays faced a tough opponent in the Midland University Warriors on Wednesday night in their last non-conference matchup of the season. Some amazing moments at both ends of the field paved the way for the Bluejays to get the 3-1 win.
The first half brought a tough test for the Bluejay defense and Midland came out quickly looking to break the deadlock. However, the senior goalkeeper Jesus Rondon was more than up for the challenge, making seven saves in the first half out of 17 in total. Tabor was able to make the breakthrough when a looping cross from Caleb Day found the head of freshmen Cason Chadd, who towered above his defender to slam the ball home for the 1-0 lead in the 41st minute. This score would hold until halftime.
The second half brought out the best of the Tabor offense, recording twelve shots. Senior James Trevis extended the Bluejay lead in the 47th minute with a smashing volley from the edge of the area. Midland responded quickly with a goal of their own in the 52nd minute.
The next phase of the match was a close contest between two teams, but the Bluejays were able to put the game beyond any doubt when Day tapped home the winner in the 75th minute from an Ander Bengoetxea cross to make the score 3-1.
"It was great to win our last non-conference game of the season. We needed to get back on the scoresheet which we did, but we need to improve on the defensive end. We put too much pressure on our back line and goalkeeper, but we battled hard to get the result," Head Coach Grant Brubacher said.
The Bluejays will be on the road on Saturday to face the Moundbuilders of Southwestern College with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 pm.
Tabor College is a Christ-centered institution located in Hillsboro, Kansas. The Bluejays are members of the NAIA and compete in the KCAC.
