Box Score HILLSBORO, Kan. The Tabor Bluejays faced fellow rival McPherson College on Wednesday night, who were seeking their first win of the season. The pulsating game ended in a 2-1 win for the Bluejays.
The first half saw chances from both teams. Tabor came close with chances from junior Sam Butler and senior Eric Brown coming close to breaking the deadlock. Tabor also had five shots in the first half compared to three shots from the Bulldogs, with sophomore Cooper Taylor sweeping up any danger.
A tactical change going into the second half brought a more aggressive game from the Bluejays. The deadlock was finally broken when junior Ander Bengoetxea found himself on the end of an Owen Bellamy cross. The Spaniard wriggled away from his defender to make it 1-0.
The Bulldogs then started pushing back and finally tied the game up with one minute left on the clock. However, the Bluejays were not content with a tie and with twelve seconds left, graduate Christoph Seeger slammed in the game-winner after Bengoetxea found him inside the Bulldog box.
"It is great to get a win in our first conference match. We need to be more composed holding a lead, but showed great character finding a way to win after conceding a late goal," Head Coach Grant Brubacher said.
The Bluejays will be on the road to play against the Friends Falcons on Saturday, September 16th, with kickoff set for 7:30 pm.
Tabor College is a Christ-centered institution located in Hillsboro, Kansas. The Bluejays are members of the NAIA and compete in the KCAC.
