LADY BLUEJAYS TOP SWEDES

LINDSBORG, Kan.     Coming off of a losing streak, the Bluejays went to play in Lindsborg, Kansas against the Bethany Swedes with the intention of improving their record and their spirits. The ladies went into the game with a clean slate and good mindsets.

Head Coach Casey Quiggle said, "Coming into tonight, there was a good feeling amongst the team. We had prepared well during practice this week and knew if we played our game, the outcome would be in our favor. Our defense and our hitters came out really strong in the first couple of sets. As a team, our attack was very efficient. Sammie, Lauren, Brindelyn, and Juliana all hit at a higher percentage tonight, making it tough on Bethany. Emma had 45 assists and on defense, Kenna had 37 digs. Those numbers will put us in a good position to win games the majority of the time."

Set one for the Bluejays started off great and got on the board first but the Swedes never gave up and came back ending up leading most of the set. The ladies dug deep and surpassed Bethany, winning 28-26. In set two, the Bluejays and the Swedes went back and forth for the first 11 serves when finally the ladies pulled it together and pulled out another win, 25-19. The third set didn't go in the Bluejay's favor. The ladies were leading most of the match but the Swedes had a rally going for themselves and after a quick timeout pulled a win in their favor, 23-25. Set four, Bethany was fighting to get to the fifth set and quickly fell short when the Bluejays came out of the huddle and left everything out on the court, winning 25-19.

Key players in this game included sophomore, Sammie Saunders with 16 kills. Junior, Emily Ellenburg, and senior, Juliana Alaniz both with 12 kills. Sophomore, Brindelyn Schneider with 4 blocks. Senior, Emma Rhodes with 45 assists, and senior, Kenna Brandes with 37 digs.

"I'm proud of the girls. They are showing a lot of resiliency this season. In our post-game talk, we all agreed to continue pressing forward. We'll celebrate the win tonight and get back to work tomorrow in practice" said Coach Quiggle.

This brings their KCAC record to 3-5 and 11-10 overall. The ladies are back at home in Hillsboro, Kansas on Saturday, October 21st against the Avila Eagles.

Tabor College is a Christ-centered institution located in Hillsboro, Kansas. The Bluejays are members of the NAIA and compete in the KCAC.
