KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A disappointing result in the second half of Sunday's doubleheader saw the Bluejays look to bounce back in the series finale with Avila University on Monday afternoon. Unfortunately, for Tabor, things went differently than the squad had hoped.
Game Three: L, 17-13
After Jack Virden homered in the bottom of the 2
nd inning to put the Eagles on the board first,
Garryn Plummer provided the Bluejays answer, sending a two-run homer over the fence, sending
Isaiah Cohens to cross the plate as well.
A Bluejay error in the bottom of the 3
rd led to Avila knotting up the game at 2-2. Three Bluejay runs crossed the plate in the top of the 4
th, courtesy of an RBI single by Cohens and a two-RBI single by Plummer. The back-and-forth scoring continued as the Eagles tied the game yet again, with a two-run homer by Zach Dillman highlighting the inning.
Five runs came in to score for Tabor in the top of the 5th, with Cohens,
Cole Schieffer,
Mikey Acosta,
Cody Moore, and
Juan Rosa Gonzalez all recording at least one RBI each. Avila tied things up again in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by a grand slam by Landon Vahle.
Two more runs would cross the plate for TC, but six additional Avila runs made the difference as the Eagles went on to win game three by a score of 17-13.
Zachary Garner was charged with the loss on the mound.
Garryn Plummer led the Bluejays offensively with four RBIs on the afternoon. Plummer also recorded the only homer for the Bluejays.
With the loss, Tabor falls to 22-14 overall on the season and 14-10 in conference play.
The Bluejays return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they play host to the University of Saint Mary in the second game of the mid-week series between the two programs. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00pm and the game will be broadcast live on
