KANSAS CITY, Mo. – As the weather improved, Bluejay Baseball made the trip east to Kansas City, Mo. to take on Avila University in a three-game KCAC series, beginning with game one on Sunday afternoon. Tabor had their sights set on starting a three-game win streak after coming into the series with two wins in a row.
Game One: W, 12-2
The Bluejays didn't have to wait long to get on the board and take control of the game, as they jumped on the Eagles early in the 1
st inning and never looked back. The first TC run came across the plate as
Micah Dvorak was hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
Aidan Martinez followed the first run with a bases-loaded RBI single to give the Bluejays a 2-0 advantage. The third run of the afternoon crossed the plate as
Cole Schieffer reached first after being hit by pitch. Three more runs came across the plate in the inning, most notably by way of a two-RBI single by
Isaiah Cohens and an RBI single by
Garryn Plummer.
More runs came in for TC in the 4
th and 5
th innings, with Martinez, Cohens,
Cody Moore, and
Juan Rosa Gonzalez all earning RBIs.
Avila got themselves on the board with two runs in the bottom of the 6
th inning, but that was all they could muster up as the Bluejays took the first game in run-rule fashion.
Wyatt Bauer earned the win on the mound for the Bluejays, throwing 82 pitches through six full innings and striking out three batters.
Isaiah Cohens and
Aidan Martinez led the Bluejays offensively with three RBIs apiece.
With the win, the Bluejays improve to 22-12 overall on the season and 14-8 in KCAC play.
