HILLSBORO, Kan. – Friday afternoon brought in the much-anticipated game one matchup between the No. 21 ranked Ottawa University Braves and the Tabor College Bluejays. Both squads entered the afternoon after earning mid-week conference wins earlier this week.
Game One: L, 17-12
Those outside of Kansas may not understand just how much a windy day can affect things out in the middle of nowhere, but they sure grew their understanding if they tuned in to watch the first game of the series between the Bluejays and the Braves.
Ottawa recorded a massive first inning, with two three-run RBIs coming in to score and one RBI single, giving the Braves the very early 7-0 lead.
Juan Rosa Gonzalez provided the Bluejays' first answer in the bottom of the inning by smashing a three-run homer.
Cole Schieffer contributed to the fourth TC run of the day, earning an RBI off a sac-fly.
The Braves responded by adding three more runs in the 4
th inning by way of a three-run homer.
Micah Dvorak brought Tabor back within five runs as he smashed a solo homer of his own.
The next three highlights for the Bluejays came courtesy of homers by
Micah Dvorak,
Marcelo Aguirre, and
Aidan Martinez.
Despite their efforts, the Bluejays ultimately fell, 17-12.
Wyatt Bauer was charged with the loss on the mound, bringing his record to 2-2 on the season.
Cody Moore and
Juan Rosa Gonzalez led the team on offense with three RBIs each.
With the loss, the Bluejays fall to 19-11 on the season and 11-7 in KCAC play.
Tabor Baseball is back in action on Saturday as they take on the Braves in the doubleheader portion of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00pm.
