BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Bluejay Baseball looked to get their week off to a great start in a big way as they made the trip down to Bartlesville, Okla. on Tuesday to take on Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Fans might remember that these two squads faced off in Hillsboro just over one week ago, with the Eagles winning a slugfest that lasted over four hours, 28-19. The Bluejays entered the afternoon looking to show how good of a team they can be, with their most recent game being a disappointing loss to Sterling on Saturday, while the Eagles looked to continue their eight-game win streak.
Game Two: W, 19-14
Aidan Martinez did his part to get the Bluejays going in the 2
nd inning, hitting an RBI single to center field, advancing
Micah Dvorak to third and sending
Juan Rosa Gonzalez home to score. Immediately following Martinez,
Jared Mack smashed his second homer of the season, also driving in Dvorak and Martinez to give Tabor an early 4-0 lead.
Garryn Plummer followed by driving in
Mikey Acosta by way of an RBI single to left field, adding to his growing RBI total for the season. Later on in the 2
nd inning,
Marcelo Aguirre hit a no-doubter, also scoring
Mateo Martinez and pushing the Bluejays' lead to 7-0. Two more runs came in for TC before the end of the 2
nd inning, courtesy of A. Martinez and Rosa Gonzalez. One additional thing that stood out, aside from Tabor's nine-run inning, was that the Bluejays batted around, with A. Martinez recording two separate RBIs in the same inning.
Following Tabor's monster inning, three runs came in for Oklahoma Wesleyan to get things going on the offensive front for the Eagles. Four additional runs came in during the bottom of the 3
rd inning to bring the Eagles within two runs.
Dvorak pushed the Bluejays' lead back out by one in the top of the 4
th, hitting in
Cody Moore on an RBI single.
The Eagles answered back in the 4
th inning and took the lead in the 5
th, holding a brief 11-10 advantage over Tabor.
Dvorak added another RBI to tie the game at 11, scoring a run that ignited an avalanche of Bluejay runs. Four more runs came in in the top of the 6
th, with Mack adding two more RBIs to his total. Mack came up big in the following inning, launching his second homer of the afternoon with this one being a three-run homer, pushing Tabor's lead to seven, 18-11.
OKWU scored two runs in the bottom of the 7
th off a two RBI homer and scored their final run of the day with a solo homer in the 9
th.
Aguirre smashed his second homer of the day in the 8
th, clinching the 19-14 Tabor victory.
Marcelo Aguirre started on the mound for the Bluejays, throwing 2.2 innings, followed by
Lee Souza who threw five strikeouts in his relief appearance.
Garrick Levesque however earned the win, throwing the final 4.1 innings, striking out four batters.
Jared Mack had himself a day, recording eight RBIs to lead the team on offense.
With the win, the Bluejays improve to 15-9 on the season and 10-6 in KCAC play.
The Bluejays return to action on Friday as they take on Dakota State University in the first two games of a four-game non-conference series.
