MADISON, S.D. – Bluejay Baseball hit the road over the weekend for a non-conference test, taking on Dakota State University in a four-game series. Friday's opening game of the series marked just the fourth time the two programs had met.
Heading into the series, the Bluejays were coming off a thrilling win over Oklahoma Wesleyan University to tie the season series between the two programs, while the Trojans earned a win over their rival, Dakota Wesleyan University.
Game One: L, 3-0
The first game saw Tabor match DSU with eight hits, but the difference was in whether or not those hits were capitalized on. The Bluejays had their chances but could not make anything happen. Dakota State, however, was able to send runners in to score off three separate RBI singles, ultimately giving them the win in Game One.
Xander Roberts made the start on the mound for the Bluejays, throwing 80 total pitches, facing 18 batters, striking out six, and giving up seven hits and three runs.
Zachary Garner threw the final two innings in relief, throwing 20 pitches, facing seven batters and sitting down two. Roberts was charged with the loss, bringing his record to 3-1 on the season.
Garryn Plummer and
Cole Schieffer led the team offensively with two hits apiece, while
Mikey Acosta,
Isaiah Cohens,
Jared Mack, and
Juan Rosa Gonzalez each recorded one hit of their own. Plummer and Rosa Gonzalez also recorded the only extra base hits of the game, each recording one double.
With the loss, Tabor fell to 15-10 on the season.
