BLUEJAYS IMPROVE TO 2-0 IN STERLING SERIES

STERLING, Kan. – Coming off a huge day on offense, Bluejay Baseball returned to action Saturday afternoon in Sterling, looking to wrap up the series with two wins.

Game Two: W, 5-2

The Bluejays jumped on the board first, with Garryn Plummer scoring due a wild pitch from the Warriors in the top of the 1st inning.

The score would remain 1-0 for the next few innings as neither team was able to come in and score until the top of the 5th inning. TC had the bases loaded with Micah Dvorak up at the plate and Dvorak capitalized on the situation, reaching the bases on a fielder's choice and sending Marcelo Aguirre home and Cody Moore to third. Immediately after, Mateo Martinez hit a solid single to left center, scoring Moore and Dvorak and advancing to second on the throw.

Sterling answered in the bottom of the 5th, breaking the 4-0 shutout the Bluejays had going with an RBI single to left center.

Moore added one more run for the Bluejays in the top of the 6th with an RBI single up the middle, sending Isaiah Cohens in to score.

One final run came in for the Warriors in the bottom of the 7th, but it would be too little, too late, as the Bluejays rolled to a 5-2 win and a 2-0 advantage in the series.

Xander Roberts got the start on the bump and made the most of it, throwing 5.2 innings and facing 25 batters, sitting down four of them. Roberts earned the win in his 87-pitch performance. Quintin Holman made a relief appearance, but it was Brayden Berens who earned the save, pitching the final inning and throwing 20 pitches to finish Sterling off.

Mateo Martinez led the Bluejays on the offensive side of things with two RBIs, while Micah Dvorak and Cody Moore each recorded one RBI. Juan Rosa Gonzalez earned free bases three different times, leading the team in walks.

With the win, the Bluejays improved to 14-8 on the season and 9-5 in KCAC action.
