HILLSBORO, Kan. – Saturday proved to be a beautiful day for the Bluejays to open up their home slate of games as the Bethany College Swedes made their way to Bluejay Baseball Field.
For the Bluejays the weekend offered to be a step in the right direction after a disappointing final result in the series at York University last weekend, but for the Swedes, it seemed like a good opportunity to string some wins together.
Game One: W, 7-6
The first game of the series did not get off to a promising start, as Tabor gave up two early runs in the top of the 2
ndinning, with one of those runs being a no-doubt homer.
TC answered in the 4
th inning by way of a homer from
Marcelo Aguirre. Aguirre's homer was followed up later in the inning by a sac-fly from
Mateo Martinez, sending
Juan Rosa Gonzalez in to score. The Bluejays then took the lead in the bottom of the 5
th inning as
Cody Moore hit a single to the shortstop, scoring
Micah Dvorak.
The Swedes retook the lead in the 6
th inning, but that lead proved to be short-lived as the Bluejays scored one run in the 7
th and two more in the 8
th to extend their lead to three runs. Bethany caused a scare in the final inning as two runs came in to score, bringing them within one, but Tabor prevailed, pulling out the 7-6 win.
Wyatt Bauer got the start for the Bluejays, but it was
Xander Roberts who earned the win to bring his overall record to 2-0, and
Lee Souza earned the save.
On the offensive side of things,
Marcelo Aguirre and
Cody Moore led the team with two RBIs apiece.
With the win, the Bluejays earned their 10
th win on the season and their fifth in KCAC play.
