HILLSBORO, Kan. – Game one certainly felt like it might have been too close for comfort, which made the mission for the second game of the series with Bethany College simple: make the necessary plays without making some of the same mistakes over and over again.
Game Two: W, 5-2
After allowing the Swedes to jump on the board first in the first game, it was the Bluejays' turn to make a statement, a statement in the form of an RBI single from
Cody Moore, sending
Mateo Martinez in to score.
Bethany tied things up in the 3
rd inning on a sac-fly.
Aidan Martinez provided the Bluejays' answer in the 4
th inning, hitting a single to right field and sending
Josh Jedretich in to score, giving Tabor a 2-1 advantage.
A Bethany homer tied things up in the top of the 5
th, but the tie would not stick as it was
Micah Dvorak's turn to hit an RBI single, sending
Mateo Martinez in to score for the second time on the day.
Cole Schieffer was hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 5
th inning, adding another run to give the Bluejays a more comfortable two-run cushion.
The highlight of the game came in the 6
th inning when
Isaiah Cohens tattooed a homer to give Tabor the final 5-2 result.
Marcelo Aguirre started on the mound for the Bluejays and provided five strong innings to earn the win, and
Brayden Berens pitched the final two innings in relief, earning the save and recording three strikeouts of his own.
Five Bluejays recorded an RBI to lead the team on the offensive side of things (
Isaiah Cohens,
Cody Moore,
Micah Dvorak,
Cole Schieffer, and
Aidan Martinez).
With the win, Tabor moved to 11-7 on the season and 6-4 in conference action.
