HILLSBORO, Kan. – Following an exciting first round victory over Bethany College on Thursday evening, Tabor secured a spot in the KCAC Tournament Semifinals that are set to take place on Saturday. The Bluejays will face Sterling College, an opponent they've faced only once this season.
No. 6 Sterling pulled off an impressive 34-point upset on Thursday evening against No. 3 ranked Evangel University. Tabor's 13-point victory against Bethany led the Bluejays to the second round of the conference tournament this weekend.
The most recent contest between Sterling and Tabor took place earlier this month on Feb. 1, with the Bluejays securing a 71-56 victory over the Warriors. In that game, four Bluejays recorded double figures, including
Kloe Bowin,
Lillie Veer,
Alyvia Owens, and
Madie McCoy.
The Bluejays' defense will be crucial in facing the Warriors and Korynn Clason, who was recently named to the KCAC All-Conference First Team as well as KCAC Player of the Year. The Junior from Cambridge, Neb. averages 20.6 points per game and has secured 644 points just this season. Earlier this year, Tabor limited the Warriors to a 41.8% field goal shooting percentage and prevented them from making any three-pointers.
Against the Swedes on Thursday, Tabor posted a 43.5% field goal percentage and excelled at the free-throw line, sinking 18 of 20 attempts for an impressive 90.0% accuracy on the night. The Lady Bluejays' defense played a huge role in their win, holding Bethany to just 34.7% shooting from the field and 18.2% from beyond the arc. Forced turnovers and second chance opportunities will be key in propelling the Bluejays toward another postseason win against a tough Sterling team.
At this point in the season, the Lady Warriors are shooting 48.1% from the field and an impressive 74.3% from the free throw line. The team averages 33.8 rebounds and 14.6 assists per game. Sterling will enter the contest with a 14-8 record in KCAC play.
This season, the Bluejays have shot 42.9% from the field and 73.6% from the free throw line. Tabor averages 31 rebounds and 11.7 assists per game and enters the contest with a conference record of 16-6. With the stage set for an exciting Semifinal matchup, the Lady Bluejays will look to capitalize on their strong first round win and home-court advantage once again as they take on Sterling in Hillsboro.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in the Tabor College Gymnasium on Saturday evening. Tickets can be purchased online through the KCAC Website. No credit card or cash transactions will be accepted. Gate workers will assist those still needing to purchase their tickets on arrival.
