GAME PREVIEW: TABOR SET TO HOST BETHANY IN KCAC QUARTERFINAL CLASH

HILLSBORO, Kan. – Following a dominant victory over Avila University on Saturday afternoon, Tabor secured the No. 2 seed in the conference standings with a 16-6 KCAC record this season.

Kansas Wesleyan leads the conference with a record of 18-4, while Evangel rose to the No. 3 spot on an eight-game win streak concluding the regular season. Two losses from Friends last week bumped the Falcons down to the No. 5 ranking, as they will face No. 4 seed Bethel College in the opening round of the KCAC tournament.

Teams set to compete in the tournament include Kansas Wesleyan University, Tabor College, Evangel University, Bethel College, Friends University, Sterling College, Bethany College, and University of Saint Mary. Host sites for the quarterfinals are set in Salina, Kan. (Kansas Wesleyan), North Newton, Kan. (Bethel), Springfield, Mo. (Evangel), and Hillsboro, Kan. (Tabor).

The Lady Bluejays are set to face the No. 7 seed Bethany Swedes in the KCAC Quarterfinals on Thursday evening. This season, Tabor has met the Swedes twice, suffering a close overtime loss earlier in the year before securing an exciting four-point victory in their most recent matchup at home just two weeks ago.

Last season Tabor won the conference, defeating Bethel and Kansas Wesleyan in earlier rounds of the KCAC tournament and finishing with an overtime win against Saint Mary to take home the title. They later fell in a close loss to LSU Shreveport in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament. This year, the Bluejays will continue the climb in hopes of reclaiming the KCAC championship title and moving onto the NAIA Tournament.

At this point in the season, the Lady Bluejays are shooting 42.9% from the field and an impressive 72.9% from the free throw line. The team averages 31.1 rebounds and 11.7 assists per game. Tabor will enter the postseason with a 16-6 record in KCAC play.

Bethany College is no small task for the Bluejays, as the last seven meetings between the teams (since early 2021) have all been decided by 10 points or fewer. This season, the Swedes have shot 39.5% from the field and 66.5% from the free throw line. From beyond the arc, Bethany shot 26.8%, compared to Tabor's 33.6% on the season. The Swedes average 37 rebounds and 13.4 assists per game and enter the postseason with a conference record of 13-9.

Bethany comes off a thrilling 65-62 victory against a strong Friends team this past Saturday. Janae Black-Harmon continues to be a standout for the Swedes, securing 14 points, nine rebounds, and four steals against the Falcons last week. Black-Harmon assisted in two upsets last week against some of the best teams in the conference, earning herself a well-deserved KCAC Defensive Player of the Week award.

With the stage set for an exciting KCAC Quarterfinal matchup, the Lady Bluejays will look to capitalize on their strong season and home-court advantage as they take on the Bethany Swedes.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in the Tabor College Gymnasium on Thursday evening. Tickets can be purchased online through the KCAC Website. No credit card or cash transactions will be accepted. Gate workers will assist those still needing to purchase their tickets on arrival.
