FORT WORTH, Texas – Tabor College Softball traveled back down to Texas this weekend to face the Rams of Texas Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon. Due to rain in the area, the Lady Bluejays were unable to play their Friday games against Jarvis Christian.
Tabor's last outing in Mesquite, Texas resulted in a 1-4 record as the Lady Bluejays faced some tough competition in the Southern Collegiate Sports NAIA Invitational. Texas Wesleyan entered the contest with a 1-5 record on the season, splitting a double header with Central Baptist College just a day earlier.
GAME ONE: TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY, W 9-2
The Lady Bluejays were off to a slow start in the first inning, with
Payten Staley singling but nobody to hit her home. The Rams were able to put a run on the board early, leading Tabor 1-0 after the first inning. Texas Wesleyan would only score once more in the bottom of the fifth inning, and the Bluejays began to find a rhythm throughout the rest of the game.
Tabor went on to score nine runs throughout the remaining six innings of the game and totaled 15 hits.
Cheyenne Washington had an impressive game at the plate, hitting .615 and recording four hits, four runs, one double, and one home run. Washington also posted a .909 fielding percentage, tallying 10 total putouts throughout the game.
Lauren Roberts recorded a triple as well, proving to become an offensive threat for the Bluejays early this season.
The Lady Bluejays secured a 9-2 victory in game one, with
Marisa Carranza earning the win on the mound for Tabor. Carranza worked through all seven innings, limiting the Lady Rams to just one double and forcing several short infield plays.
GAME TWO: TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY, L 1-2
The Bluejays struggled to maintain their momentum from game one and found it difficult to generate runs in game two. Their only score came in the fifth inning when the Utah newcomer,
Mylee Milne, blasted a solo home run. Texas Wesleyan's two first-inning runs proved to be enough, as they remained the only runs the Rams scored all game.
Tabor made a late push in the seventh inning, with Roberts and
Reyna Enriquez each hitting singles, but both being left on base as the game came to a close. The Bluejays fell to Texas Wesleyan 1-2, with
Madison Nelson taking the loss on the mound.
The Bluejays saw much offensive improvement from their last outing in Mesquite, leaving players and fans hopeful for the season ahead. The Lady Bluejays' strong performance in game one highlighted their ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities, while game two demonstrated their determination, even in a tough loss.
With key players stepping up at the plate and on the mound, Tabor continues to build momentum early in the season. As they look ahead to their upcoming matchups, the team's progress and potential remain promising.
