RICHARDSON, Texas – The Lady Bluejays traveled to Texas for the third consecutive weekend to take on the University of Texas at Dallas on Sunday afternoon. This doubleheader against the Comets marked the first-ever meeting between Tabor and UTD in school history.
In last weekend's doubleheader against Texas Wesleyan, Tabor secured one win and suffered one loss, with standout performances from multiple Bluejays. UTD entered Sunday's matchup with a 3-1 record on the season, having previously swept Dallas Christian and split a series with St. Thomas.
GAME ONE: L, 4-5
The Lady Bluejays got the bats going first with an early home run from
Cheyenne Washington, her third of the season thus far. Washington batted in Staley, putting two runs on the board in the first inning. UTD responded with a three-run homer of their own in the bottom of the first. Tabor added a few more runs to the scoreboard, highlighted by a strong triple from
Darcy Gillen and
Candince Moreno-Hairabedian securing her first collegiate home run.
Heading into the fifth inning, the Bluejays held a 4-3 lead over the Comets. However, Tabor was unable to add to their tally and ultimately fell to UTD in a close 5-4 contest. Despite the loss, the team showcased strong efforts both offensively and defensively throughout the game.
Leilani Rios and
Marisa Carranza each pitched three innings, limiting UTD's offensive opportunities.
GAME TWO: W, 6-3
After falling in game one, the Lady Bluejays focused on the importance of early scoring in the second half of their doubleheader. Tabor took advantage of pitching struggles, putting up four runs in the first inning, highlighted by a hard single to right-center from
Dessa Zavala that drove in two runners. The Comets were left scoreless at the bottom of the first.
UTD went on to score three total runs throughout the game, while the Bluejays scored two more runs fueled by key hits from
Lauren Roberts and
Payten Staley. Tabor secured a 6-3 victory in game two, capitalizing on multiple offensive opportunities.
Madison Nelson earned the win for the Bluejays, delivering a strong performance on the mound and pitching all seven innings.
The Lady Bluejays showcased their resilience against the Comets, bouncing back from a narrow game-one loss to secure a strong win in game two. With key contributions on both offense and defense, Tabor continues to build momentum as they progress through the season.
This weekend, the Bluejays will make the trip to Columbia, Mo. to face Stephens College on Saturday afternoon. The double header is set to take place at American Legion Field with games starting at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tabor will enter the contest with an overall record of 3-5 on the season.
