HILLSBORO, Kan. – Following an almost cinematic overtime win against the top-ranked Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes on Saturday night, Tabor looks ahead toward this week's matchups against Bethany College and University of Saint Mary. Due to wintry weather conditions this week, Wednesday's game against Bethany was postponed to Thursday afternoon.
Kloe Bowin had an outstanding performance in Saturday's contest against the Coyotes, securing 22 points, four rebounds, and shooting 8-10 from the field and 6-9 from the free throw line.
Lillie Veer,
Alyvia Owens, and
Miyah McGee also joined Bowin in reaching double figures, each contributing greatly to Tabor's 75-68 win over the Coyotes.
At this point in the season, the Lady Bluejays are shooting 43.2% from the field and an impressive 72.1% from the free throw line. The team averages 32.2 rebounds and 12 assists per game. Tabor will enter the contest with a 15-8 overall record and a 13-5 record in KCAC play. The Bluejays currently sit in third place in the KCAC rankings, just one win behind Friends University.
Bethany comes off a dominant 90-70 win against Southwestern this past Saturday. Janae Black-Harmon had a standout night for the Swedes, scoring 24 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, securing a double-double on the evening. Their win against the Moundbuilders improved the Swedes' overall record to 13-11 and their conference record to 11-7.
Bethany averages 37.2 rebounds and 13.4 assists per game. They have shot 39.1% from the field and 66.6% from the free throw line this season. The Swedes have only managed an average three-point percentage of 26.6%, which the Bluejay defense will attempt to capitalize on during Thursday's matchup.
Tabor previously faced off against Bethany in a thrilling overtime contest on Jan. 8. The Bluejays came up short in Lindsborg, falling by five points with a final score of 61-66. In this January matchup, Bowin, McGee,
Kassidy Beam, and
Madie McCoy all recorded double-digit points.
The Bluejays contributed six blocks, 13 assists, and 25 rebounds against the Swedes. Despite a strong effort, Tabor was outscored 12-7 in overtime, resulting in a tough conference loss. However, having won six of their last seven games, Tabor looks to carry their momentum forward throughout the week.
Throughout history, Tabor holds a 49-14 record over the Swedes, with the earliest contest dating back to 1964. On their home court, the Bluejays hold an impressive 17-3 record against Bethany.
Following an exhilarating overtime victory against Kansas Wesleyan, the Bluejays aim to avenge their earlier loss to Bethany and solidify their standing in the KCAC. Thursday's game presents an opportunity for Tabor to capitalize on Bethany's shooting struggles while leveraging their efficiency from the field and free throw line.
As the postseason approaches, each game becomes increasingly critical, and the Lady Bluejays will look to maintain their competitive edge and push for a top conference finish. Tabor rounds out conference play next week with games on the road against Bethel College and Avila University.
