BLUEJAYS HAVE NO ANSWER FOR THRESHERS

HILLSBORO, Kan. – Wednesday evening marked the first rivalry matchup of the season between the Tabor College Lady Bluejays and the Bethel College Threshers. The rivalry on the women's side dates back to the 1961-62 season, but the rivalry goes beyond just the athletics world as the two schools are less than 30 minutes apart from one another and they are both deeply rooted in the Mennonite tradition, with Bethel being part of the Mennonite Church USA and Tabor being part of the Mennonite Brethren Church.

The Bluejays snapped a three-game losing streak with a win at home over Ottawa on Saturday, while the Threshers entered the game fresh off a big win over Saint Mary.

Bethel surprised the Bluejays by coming out of the gate hot, holding a six-point lead at the end of the 1st quarter, 16-10. The Bluejays found themselves down by 11 less than two minutes into the 2nd quarter, before two quick shots by Alyvia Owens gave Tabor the spark they needed. Owens helped bring the Bluejays within three points of the Threshers going into the halftime break, 28-25.

Nothing seemed to go Tabor's way in the 3rd quarter, as turnovers and missed shots led to the Bluejays finding themselves in a 19-point hole. Bethel continued to pile on the pressure, going on to win by 18, 66-48.

Alyvia Owens led the team in scoring with 11 points.

The Lady Bluejays are back in action on Saturday as they head east to Leavenworth to take on the University of Saint Mary at 5pm.
