CENTRAL METHODIST TAKES GAME ONE OF FIRST ROUND OF NAIA TOURNAMENT

FAYETTE, Mo. — The Bluejays are in Missouri for the NAIA Opening Round Tournament. For Game One, the number three-seeded Jays took on the number two-seeded Central Methodist University. After getting the game going for two innings, there was lightening around so the game was delayed for three hours.

The Bluejays got out to a lead before the delay but the Eagles soon got on board and scored. A back-and-forth game leading to extra innings, was a tough loss added to the Bluejays season, 6-7 in the 10th inning.

It was a quiet and quick 1st inning for both teams, as there were zeros across the board. A big 2nd inning for the Bluejays. Juan Rosa-Gonzalez singled up the middle and Cody Moore hit a double off the left-field wall to get runners into scoring position. A soft hit ball back to the pitcher by Mikey Acosta scored Rosa-Gonzalez. Acosta stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch meaning Moore scored another run. Isaiah Cohens singled and scored Acosta. Cohens stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Tyler Mata Lloyd singled to make the score 4-0.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Central Methodist got on the board with two hits and both runners crossed the plate, 4-2. They scored one in the bottom of the 4th, 4-3. The bottom of the 5th was when the Eagles got their first game lead, 4-5.

In the 7th, Trotter Boston hit a single up the middle and Acosta hit a double to move Boston to third. A throwing error by the shortstop got Cohens on and scored Boston to tie it up, 5-5.

Another run got across for the Eagles to pull ahead, 5-6.

The Bluejays tied it back up at 6 in the 8th inning with a Jackie Jimenez home run.

CMU won the game after bases were loaded and a batter was hit in the 10th inning, 6-7.

The Jays are back tomorrow, May 13th to take on the loser of Hope International and Northwestern Ohio at 2 p.m.
