HILLSBORO, Kan. – Bluejay Softball returned home to the friendly confines of Bluejay Field yesterday to host Kansas Christian in a rematch of the doubleheader played in Kansas City two weeks ago. The Bluejays looked to bounce back from a frustrating weekend in Oklahoma, dropping both games at Oklahoma Wesleyan, while the Falcons came into the series after dropping all three games in their home series with Dallas Christian.
Both teams found themselves at a stalemate through the top of the 3
rd Inning in game one, but the Bluejays broke the game wide open in the bottom of the 3
rd with a two-run homerun crushed out to left-center field by
Cheyenne Washington, followed by runs from
Savannah Evans and
Payten Staley to give the Bluejays a 4-0 lead going into the 4
th Inning.
Laura Savage, and
Mikayla Guarascio each came in to score in the 4
th Inning, and Evans and Washington would cross home as well to give the Bluejays a massive 8-0 advantage. Kansas Christian drove in a run in the top of the 5
th to keep the game alive and avoid the run rule, but their effort was in vain as
Darcy Gillen hammered a ball to left center field which sailed over the fence for a walk-off two-run bomb to give Tabor a 10-1 win in 5 Innings.
Brianna Alligood recorded the win in the circle.
The Bluejays got going quickly in the 1
st Inning in game two, with Gillen sending
Reese Hefley in off an RBI-double and Washington recording her second two-run homer of the day immediately after. The Falcons scored in the 3
rdInning to cut their deficit to two runs with the score sitting at 3-1 in favor of Tabor. The Bluejay ladies answered in the bottom of the 4
th Inning with a two-RBI double from
Lauren Roberts.
Four runs came across the plate for Tabor in the bottom of the 5
th to give the Bluejays the victory in run-rule fashion, 10-1. Washington drove in
Jacie Myers for an RBI-single,
Sydney Pilgrim hit an RBI-single in only her second appearance as a Bluejay, sending Washington in to score, and
Leyla Ayala hit the walk-off two-RBI double to center field to drive in Pilgrim and
Keeley Brewer.
