WALK OFF TWO-RUN BOMB FROM GILLEN GIVES BLUEJAYS A SERIES SWEEP IN THRILLING FASHION

HILLSBORO, Kan. – The quick turnaround for Bluejay Softball didn't seem to faze the team. The Bluejays hosted Kansas Christian for a doubleheader on Tuesday and turned right back around yesterday afternoon to host Sterling. The Warriors came into the series in Hillsboro after being swept by Friends on Saturday in Wichita.

The Warriors quickly put their mark on the first game, sending three runs in to score in the 1st Inning. Cheyenne Washington put the Bluejays on the board to answer with a two-RBI double to right center, scoring Darcy Gillen and Reese Hefley. The Bluejays evened up the score in the bottom of the second with an RBI-double from Laura Savage, sending Lauren Roberts home. The Warriors answered back with two runs of their own to take a 5-3 lead in the top of the 3rd, but that lead didn't last long.

Savage sent in the tying runs for the Tabor ladies in the bottom of the 4th with a two-RBI double to left center, scoring Roberts and Mikayla Guarascio. Washington singled to left center, paving the way for Gillen to cross the plate. Head Coach Jeff Brewer brought in Jordyn Farren to pinch-hit for Reyna Enriquez with the bases loaded, and the switch more than paid off, as Farren doubled to right center and Payten Staley, Jacqueline Garcia, and Washington all scored, giving the Bluejays a solid 9-6 advantage with only two outs recorded. Even though all three runs were unearned, Farren's effort brought some much-needed juice to the Bluejays' dugout, fueling the team the rest of the way. Guarascio sent in the final run of the inning for the Bluejays with a single to the Warriors' shortstop, sending Enriquez in to score after she re-entered the game to pinch run for Farren.

Sterling snuck in another run in the top of the 7th, but they were unable to do any more as the Bluejays secured the third out and took game one, 10-6. Marisa Carranza earned the win in the circle for the Bluejays after helping lead the team to a comeback triumph.

The Warriors opened up game two in similar fashion, this time scoring two runs in the top of the first. Those runs would go unanswered until the bottom of the 4th when a two-RBI double down the left field line from Reese Hefley evened the score, with Staley and Jacie Myers crossing the plate. Roberts continued the scoring party with a two-RBI double of her own, this one going out to right center, sending Hefley and Enriquez home. Guarascio decided to spice things up with an RBI triple to score Roberts, giving the Bluejays a three-run advantage going into the 5thInning, 5-2.

One more run scored for Tabor in the bottom of the 5th, Washington went home on a sac-fly by Staley. Sterling found their second wind in the top of the 7th, sending five runs across the plate to take a one run lead, 7-6, forcing the Bluejay offense to return for the bottom of the 7th. Guarascio set up a potential game-winning play, getting on base via a single to left center, bringing the slugger Gillen up to bat. Gillen took the very first pitch and barreled it over the fence in left center for a huge walk-off two-run homer, her second in two days. The Bluejays earned the sweep over Sterling with the 8-7 walk-off win, giving them huge momentum heading into Saturday's Senior Day date with Ottawa.

The Bluejays will return to Bluejay Field one last time this coming Saturday for Senior Day. The Bluejay women will play host to Ottawa. The Braves currently sit in second place in the KCAC and the Bluejays look to clinch the last spot in the conference tournament. First pitch will take place at 1pm and the series will be broadcast live on the KCAC Network
