HILLSBORO, Kan. – The weather in Hillsboro today was a far cry from that of Saturday, when Bluejay Softball last took the field, splitting the doubleheader with Friends. The Bluejays hosted York this afternoon in a KCAC doubleheader and both programs were looking to pick up two wins and improve their standing in the conference.
Game One: W 17-5 (5 Innings)
The Bluejays made it on the board first with a two RBI double from
Darcy Gillen, sending
Mikayla Guarascio, and
Laura Savage across home plate in the bottom of the 1
st to give them an early 1-0 lead. York took the lead in the 2
nd Inning 4-2, but the Bluejays answered right back in exciting fashion with eight runs of their own. The biggest highlights in the inning and quite possibly the game came with a three-run bomb to left field from Gillen, and
Jacqueline Garcia answered and hit a two-run homer out to left-field to give Tabor an 8-4 advantage.
Seven more RBIs came in for the Bluejays in the bottom of the 3
rd, who found themselves with a 15-5 lead going into the 4
th Inning. Two more runs would cross the plate in the bottom of the 4
th Inning, and the Bluejays would take game one after four and a half innings played, run-ruling the Panthers, 17-5.
Marisa Carranza earned herself the win in the first game.
Game Two: W 18-0 (5 Innings)
Game two looked like it could be getting off to a slow start, with the score still being tied at zero after one and a half innings played, but that would soon change in a huge way for the Bluejays. The Bluejays totaled four RBI singles, two RBI doubles, one 2-RBI double, one 3-RBI triple, and one three-run homer.
Darcy Gillen carried over her monster performance from the game before and sent another three-run homer sailing past the center field fence.
More fireworks came in the bottom of the 4
th Inning when
Jacie Myers came in to pinch hit for
Laura Savage. Myers crushed the ball to left-center field for a two-run homerun for her first homer of the season in just her 13
th at-bat.
Cheyenne Washington saw what Myers did, decided it looked fun and crushed a ball of her own out to center field for her own two-run homer to put the Bluejays up 18-0. The Bluejays recorded their second win of the day over the Panthers, 18-0. This win marks the second 18 run victory for Tabor this season, their highest scoring margin of the season.
Annabelle Buchanan did a remarkable job in the circle for the Bluejays, leaving York scoreless throughout the game and only giving up two total hits.
The Lady Bluejays will hope to build on the momentum they gained from this doubleheader and will certainly be motivated heading into the series on the road in Bartlesvlle at Oklahoma Wesleyan this coming Saturday. First pitch will be thrown at 3pm and the games will be broadcast live on the KCAC Network
