OTTAWA, Kan. — The Bluejays are now 20-8 overall on the season after securing two wins against a very well-coached No. 23 Freed-Hardeman University (TN) team.
Head Coach Mark Standiford said, "It was a great team effort against a really good team. Very proud of the way we pitched and played defense. Anytime you can sweep a ranked team it's a good day."
GAME ONE- Bluejays 5 Lions 4
The Bluejays scored two in the first inning. Tyler Mata Lloyd started it off with a walk then scored on a Garryn Plummer hit. Cody Moore got walked and Plummer got a pinch runner, Mikey Acosta. Acosta moved to third on a double play and scored on a hit by Miguel Ramos III, 2-0.
It was quiet until the top of the third when the Lions scored their only runs of the game, 2-4.
The Jays came back with two runs to tie up the game in the bottom of the fifth. Marcelo Aguirre singled and Micah Dvorak doubled. Mata Lloyd hit an RBI to score Aguirre and Plummer hit a single to score Dvorak, 4-4.
Ramos III hit a double to get the sixth started. Conner Flynn was put in to pinch run and was moved to third on a ball hit by Trotter Boston. Flynn scored on a passed ball to seal the win, 5-4.
GAME TWO- Bluejays 5 Lions 2
Tyler Mata Lloyd doubled to start off the first and advanced to third on a pitcher's bok. Cody Moore walked and Miguel Ramos III hit a single to score Mata Lloyd, 1-0.
In the next inning, Freed-Hardeman scored to make it even, 1-1.
Trotter Boston walked and moved over to second off a hit by Moore. Juan Rosa-Gonzalez got on with a fielder's choice. Ramos III got on with a fielder's choice and scored Moore, 2-1.
In the fourth, Mikey Acosta hit a solo home run. Mata Lloyd was hit by a pitch, stole second, stole third on a wild pitch, and scored on a wild pitch, 4-1.
Garryn Plummer hit a double to center to start the fifth. Pinch runner Conner Flynn advanced to third off a Sebastian Sarabia hit. Acosta hit a sac fly to left for Flynn to score, 5-1.
The Lions scored one more in the top of the seventh, 5-2.
The Bluejays travel to Ottawa, Kansas to take on the Ottawa Braves on Friday, March 29th at 1:00 p.m.
