HILLSBORO, Kan. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the 2024 Daktronics NAIA Men's Basketball Scholar-Athletes on Friday.
The NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete Program exists to recognize excellence in the classroom by NAIA student-athletes who are sophomores or above in academic standing with a 3.5 cumulative GPA. Students must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended one full year as a non-transfer or one full year as a transfer. These awards are given annually to the outstanding student-athletes in the various sports in which the program is active, and their respective teams are eligible for NAIA postseason competition.
This season, Tabor had four athletes honored from the Men's Basketball program. Seniors
Kade Hemmert and
Leon Srisamutr and juniors
Luke Buckingham and
Joao Maria Serra Pereira received this prestigious honor.
"We are extremely proud of these four young men! For Kade and Leon, this is the third year they have made this prestigious list! This is the second straight year that Luke and JP have been honored. That is a tremendous accomplishment based off odds excellence and consistency in the classroom", remarked Head Men's Basketball Coach
Matt Warren.
Warren also expressed his high hopes for the future, "We look forward to continuing to add more to this list after many of our new players meet the one-year qualification."
These accomplishments would not be possible without the faculty and staff, and Coach Warren wanted to recognize these staff members with a heartfelt thank-you, "On behalf of our program, I want to thank all the professors and academic faculty here at Tabor that help these students succeed in the classroom!"
