SHEWEY AND STADE PLACE TOP 5 AT NATIONALS

Brookings, S.D.  - In the three-day event for the NAIA Championships, the Tabor men came away with two All-Americans in the three races.

After struggling early on his first few jumps in the high jump, Vance Shewey worked himself up the leaderboard, finishing as the runner-up with an All-American jump of 6-11.00.

"I thought we had a very successful national indoor meet! Vance struggled early in the competition but he is a real competitor and he put together a great set of jumps to put himself back into contention and ultimately into 2nd place in the nation," Head Coach David Kroeker said.

Ryan Stade qualified for the finals with a school record in the 5000m prelims on Thursday (14:42.13), which was the fastest in his heat. That record lasted all of two days, as he broke it Saturday again (14:35.57), good for a fourth place finish in the 5000m finals.

"Great weekend for Stade! First national track championships for him and he got out of prelims no problem and battled with the best in the country for the final! He's taken 32 seconds off his pr from outdoor last year this indoor season! It's always really exciting to be in the mix and come home an All-American! Electric way to cap off his phenomenal indoor season!" Distance Coach Rylan Hincher said.

Dillon Callaway just missed out on the finals in the 1000m prelims (2:28.11), taking ninth by less than half of a second.

"Callaway ran really well in the prelims and barely missed a time qualifier spot to the final. The 1k prelims were a battle and we fell on the wrong side of the decimal this time. Great indoor season for Dillon with multiple personal bests, stoked for what he will do outdoors!" Hincher said.

"Overall we had a good indoor season as both women's and men's teams. We come home with 2 more All-Americans from a national meet which is always special," Kroeker said. "As we look forward to the upcoming outdoor season there is a lot of potential for more excellent performances and the possibility of more national qualifiers. It should be an exciting year!"

Outdoor track and field season is scheduled to start Friday, March 15 at the St. Mary's Distance Carnival, a distance-only event in Leavenworth, Kan.
