LINDSBORG, Kan. — The Bluejays went into the weekend on an eight-game winning streak and came out of the weekend on an 11-game winning streak to shut down the Bethany Swedes. This is their third conference sweep.
Assistant Coach Jake Jones said, "The boys played well. Anytime you can get a conference sweep on the road is huge."
GAME ONE- Bluejays 9 Swedes 2
Cutter Smith received the win for game one on Saturday, March 9th. The Bluejays got on the Swedes in the top of the first inning scoring 3 runs. Tyler Mata Lloyd started it off with a triple to center while Micah Dvorak was hit by a pitch. Juan Rosa-Gonzalez scored them off a homerun to right center field, 3-0.
A walk and a hit was how Bethany got their first run on the board, 3-1.
Isaiah Cohens was walked and moved over to third on a hit by Garryn Plummer. Mata Lloyd hit a single to the pitcher to make it bases-loaded. Cody Moore was walked to score Cohens, 4-1.
Miguel Ramos III started the third with a double to right, Marcelo Aguirre moved Ramos to third off a single to right field, and Cohens got himself a hit and an RBI, 5-1.
The Bluejays scored 4 more runs the rest of the game while the Swedes got another run off a homerun to make the score, 9-2.
GAME TWO- Bluejays 12 Swedes 0
Max Raddatz started for the Bluejays on a beautiful Sunday, March 10th afternoon. It was scoreless for two innings for both teams until the Bluejays finally scored 2 runs in the top of the third. Miguel Ramos III got on by an error made by the shortstop, Marcelo Aguirre singled to right, and Trotter Boston hit a single to score Ramos III and move Aguirre to third. A single hit by Garryn Plummer scored Aguirre, 2-0.
The top of the fourth was when the Bluejays picked it up to score 7 runs. Micah Dvorak and Tyler Mata Lloyd walked to get the inning started. Isaiah Cohens moved them over with a sac bunt, while Cody Moore got walked. Juan Rosa-Gonzalez hit a bases-clearing double to score Dvorak, Mata Lloyd, and Moore, 5-0. Aguirre traded spots with Rosa-Gonzalez by hitting an RBI double, 6-0. Boston reached on an error by the right fielder and Aguirre scored, 7-0. Plummer hit a single to score Boston and Mata Lloyd hit a single to score pinch runner, Mikey Acosta, 9-0.
Another 3 runs for the Bluejays in the fifth and sixth innings to win the game, 12-0 in seven innings.
GAME THREE- Bluejays 10 Swedes 2
Quintin Holman secured the win for game three. The Bluejays scored their first runs of the game in the top of the second. Miguel Ramos III was hit by a pitch to get it going and advanced to second on a wild pitch to get into scoring position. Trotter Boston was walked and Garryn Plummer was hit by a pitch to make it bases-loaded. Isaiah Cohens hit a single to shortstop to get Ramos III to score. Another walk issued to Tyler Mata Lloyd scored Boston, 2-0.
Juan Rosa-Gonzalez was walked to start the top of the third and ended up stealing second. Ramos III moved Rosa-Gonzalez around to third on a bunt and a Boston sac fly scored Rosa-Gonzalez. Marcelo Aguirre got walked, Aidan Martinez was hit by a pitch, and Plummer hit a 2-run single. Plummer stole second, Cohens was walked, and a single by Mata Lloyd scored Martinez, 6-0.
In the top of the fourth, Tabor scored one, 7-0. But finally, in the bottom of the fifth, Bethany scored their first runs of the game making it, 7-2.
The Bluejays got those runs back the next inning, 10-2.
The Bluejays will be on the road in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to take on Oklahoma Wesleyan University at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12th for a doubleheader.
