TOPEKA, Kan. - The Tabor men's indoor track team traveled to Topeka to participate in the Washburn University Open on Friday, Feb. 2 and Saturday, Feb 3.
Junior Vance Shewey (6-10.75) had another impressive "A" Standard leap in the high jump that netted him a second place finish, just shy of his school record.
"In the field, Vance Shewey placed 2nd in a very tough field! He had 3 really good attempts as a new personal record as well as finishing ahead of the NAIA national indoor HJ leader who finished 4th," Head Coach David Kroeker said.
In the shot put, junior Joshua Garcia (38-04.00) took 36th. In the weight throw, sophomore Chase Nash (40-11.75) placed 34th and Garcia (40-10.25) placed 35th.
Tabor had a strong showing in the mile as junior Dillon Callaway (4:19.96) finished in 7th and sophomore Ryan Stade (4:24.51) finished in 22nd.
In the 600y, freshman Taegen Gallagher (1:17.35) took 29th place. Senior Ali Cannon (7.20) placed 74th in the 60m.
Tabor racked up a fourth place finish and just barely missed the "B" standard in the DMR (10:16.52), with a team of Callaway, junior Brandon Geyer, junior Nicholas Green and Stade.
In the 4x4 relay, Gallagher, Cannon, senior Nick Montoya and Geyer took 21st (3:28.28).
"Our men competed well coming off running a near national qualifying mark in the DMR on Friday night. We had great efforts today and personal bests from Callaway and Stade. We are in a great spot heading into the conference meet," Distance Coach Rylan Hincher said.
Freshman Caleb Wehrman finished 25th in the heptathlon, with 3564 points. His best finish came in the shot put (35-04.75), where he placed 13th. His other top 15 finish in the heptathlon came in the pole vault (11-08.00), where he placed 14th.
"I think we are primed and ready for conference in Omaha for both the men and the women," Kroeker said.
The Bluejays will travel to Omaha, Neb. to participate in the KCAC Indoor Championships on Monday, Feb. 12 and Tuesday, Feb. 13. Tickets are now available for purchase at kcacsports.com.
