LAKELAND, Fla. – The Lady Bluejays made the trip down south for one more test before Christmas break as they took on RV Southeastern University in a non-conference battle Monday evening.
Heading into the matchup between the two teams, Tabor came off a convincing win at home over Avila on Saturday, 80-65, while Southeastern came off a win over Lindsey Wilson to close out Cumberland University's Rosa Stokes Classic.
Tabor held a solid 22-13 lead going into the 2
nd quarter, but the Fire came roaring back, taking a three-point lead into the halftime break, 35-33. Southeastern frustrated the Bluejays, holding them to just eight points in the 3
rd quarter. Despite a strong 4
th quarter, Southeastern went on to win, 75-57.
Lillie Veer led the Bluejays on offense, contributing 11 points, while
Kloe Bowin finished just outside double figures with nine points and
Kassidy Beam finished with eight. Veer pulled down seven boards and grabbed two steals, while Bowin finished with two blocks.
"I thought we played extremely well for the first 14 or 15 minutes of the ball game", stated Head Coach
Shawn Reed. With just under six minutes to go in the first half we led by 16 points, and we were controlling the tempo of the game and getting quality shots."
"In the end, turnovers were the difference in the game. We actually shot a higher percentage from both the field and the three-point line, and we shot more free throws than Southeastern, but you can't turn the ball over 25 times and expect to win."
"It's a tough situation for our team. We had a conference game Saturday afternoon and then we hopped on a plane early yesterday and played today with no practice in between but that's no excuse for turning the ball over 25 times."
The Lady Bluejays return to action on Saturday, January 4
th as they make the trip up north to Salina to take on Kansas Wesleyan University.
