HILLSBORO, Kan. – Saturday marked the first Senior Day under first-year Head Coach Adam Brewster, as the Bluejays welcomed the No. 9 ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles to Hillsboro.
Tabor recognized six Senior athletes before the match, including four athletes who played their entire career as a Bluejay:
Emily Ellenburg,
Juliana Alaniz,
Miranda Aguilar, and
Naera Tschus. Joining those four were
Macy Rowan and
Cocone Matsuzawa, who both transferred into the program.
Quite possibly one of the biggest highlights from the first set and maybe even the match was
Emily Ellenburg coming in to serve after missing the entire season due to an injury. Much to the entire crowd's delight, Ellenburg's first serve was a perfect ace, which served as an appropriate welcome back to the court for the Senior before she stepped off the floor for the final time in her career.
The Lady Bluejays hung with the Eagles throughout the first set, battling back on multiple occasions after finding themselves down by several points, before falling by eight, 25-17.
Set Two looked similar to the first set, this time with Tabor looking even better than the last set. Kills by
Katie Hofer and
Liana McGonigle helped keep the Bluejays in it, before the Eagles took Set Two by a score of 25-18.
Oklahoma Wesleyan came out on fire in the third set, leading by as many as 10. The Lady Bluejays worked their way back, but ultimately fell by nine, 25-16.
With the loss, Tabor falls to 4-22 on the season. The Bluejays face another Top 25 test as Highway 56 rival and No. 17 ranked McPherson College makes the short trek to Hillsboro on Wednesday.
