HILLSBORO, Kan. – Following a challenging loss to a strong Avila team on Saturday, the Lady Bluejays looked ahead to their matchup with York University in hopes of improving their conference record as the regular season nears its end. The match was initially set for Wednesday evening, but the inclement weather in Hillsboro had other plans and led to a postponement until Thursday night. A chilly evening set the scene for Tabor's last home game, as their opponents from York entered the contest with an overall record of 8-5-3 and a record of 5-3-3 in KCAC play.
The first 15 minutes of play resulted in a lot of back-and-forth action but not many opportunities for scoring on either end of the pitch. York fired a shot at the goal but couldn't get it past
Neve Mulrooney, who had recorded 70 saves on the season prior to Thursday's contest and looked to continue adding to her total.
Porsha Zweifel attempted to kickstart Tabor's offensive run, taking an opportunity to score but unable to find the back of the net.
April Ochoa also attempted to convert for the Bluejays a couple of times before the half concluded, although she was unable to capitalize on any opportunities. There was a total of four shots taken during the entire first half with both teams scoreless going into the second. Tabor and York both hoped to create more offensive output in the second half as they came back onto the field following the break.
The second half proved challenging on the offensive end for the Bluejays, with Zweifel making three more attempts at scoring, joined by efforts from
Taylor Nye and
Josie Simpson. Simpson's shot struck the crossbar, narrowly missing the chance to put the team on the scoreboard as the clock continued to wind down. York demonstrated much more offensive dominance during the second half, taking a combined nine shots and giving Mulrooney seven more saves to add to the tally. The match concluded in a 0-0 draw as both teams added another tie to their records.
Tabor's last scheduled regular season match is set for Saturday at 5:00 p.m. in Bartlesville, Okla. Make sure to keep an eye on any schedule changes as there may be poor weather conditions expected prior to the match. The Bluejays will face Oklahoma Wesleyan, who enters the contest with an overall record of 14-0-3 and a record of 11-0-1 in conference play.
