LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The Lady Bluejays sought to improve their conference record on Saturday afternoon following their previous 2-1 victory against Bethel on Wednesday. They traveled to the University of Saint Mary, where they took on the Spires in yet another conference showdown. Tabor went into the competition with a conference record of 3-3-2, while Saint Mary entered with a conference record of 4-4.
The Spires began the match with offensive control on their own turf, taking three shots within the first 10 minutes of play, all of which were saved by
Neve Mulrooney. It wasn't until a little while later that the Bluejays would have a chance to retaliate, with
Raegan King taking the first shot for Tabor but coming up unsuccessful. In the 24
th minute of the match,
Haven Deckinger netted a goal for the Bluejays with an assist from
Josie Simpson, giving Tabor a 1-nil lead over the Spires. A handful of Spires would attempt to equalize throughout the remainder of the first half, but none were able to convert their scoring opportunities.
Saint Mary entered the second half determined to improve their offensive output, proving successful in their efforts. They spent most of the half taking shots at scoring, including eight different attempts by various Spires. Sadie Dipman-Hayward pulled the trigger and scored the equalizer for Saint Mary about 15 minutes into the half. She would be the lone scorer for the team, netting another goal with only 12 minutes of time remaining on the clock and putting her team ahead 2-1.
Cassidy Boyer took a last-minute attempt at the goal, narrowly missing the target as the clock expired soon after. Mulrooney recorded six total saves on the afternoon, contributing to her rapidly increasing season tally. Despite the devastating loss, Tabor demonstrated great resilience and a strong defensive display as well. The Bluejays are set to resume their conference schedule on Wednesday with a 5 p.m. match at Bethany College. The Swedes will enter the competition with an overall record of 0-13-1 and a conference record of 0-8-1.
