BLUEJAYS FLY TO VICTORY

Box Score

Hillsboro, Kan.     The Bluejays started off their first KCAC home game against the Southwestern Moundbuilders. They came off a great past weekend tournament going 4-0 to give them an overall record of 8-5 and having great momentum to set them up for this matchup.

Starting their first match off, the ladies were neck and neck with the Moundbuilders but just couldn't come back from the rally Southwestern was having and lost set one, 12-25. The Lady Bluejays started set two staying in a close but just falling, 19-25. In a back-and-forth climatic set three, the Bluejays pulled it together and won, 25-21. Set four was composed of great team chemistry for the Bluejays and ended up winning to take them to set five, 25-18. The fifth set started off hot for the Bluejays and continued rallying with the Moundbuilders ending the day in a Bluejay win, 15-11.

Key players for this matchup are sophomore, Sammie Saunders with 23 kills, and freshman, Sydney Biggs with 10 kills. Senior, Emma Rhodes with 46 assists, and senior, Kenna Brandes with 29 digs.

Head Coach Casey Quiggle said, "That was a great match and there's so many contributors to mention. Emma Rhodes continues to set up the offense nicely and our defense (Kenna Brandes, Tori Maldonado, Macy Rowan, and Naera Tschus) always shows up. Valarie Allen, Sydney Biggs, and Lauren Tolbert also came in and did their jobs well. Valarie and Lauren had some key blocks and Sydney hit very efficiently. Brindelyn Schneider had some great kills and attacks on the ball as well. Sammie Saunders overcame a rough start and put a lot of balls away for us. It was a big team win and an exciting way to start off Conference play."

The Lady Bluejays pulled out their first conference win of the season which puts them 1-0 in the conference and 9-5 overall. Their next game is against Kansas Wesleyan University on Wednesday, September 27th at 7:00 p.m. in Hillsboro, Kansas.

Tabor College is a Christ-centered institution located in Hillsboro, Kansas.  The Bluejays are members of the NAIA and compete in the KCAC.
