NEXT UP: LADY BLUEJAYS TAKE ON BETHEL

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. – The Lady Bluejays will head down to the road face a familiar foe in bitter rival Bethel College. This rivalry is certainly one of the oldest, if not the oldest rivalry for Tabor, and is one that isn't just rooted in athletics. Both schools were founded by Mennonites, with Bethel belonging to the Mennonite Church USA and Tabor belonging to the Mennonite Brethren church.

The two teams have played 36 times since 2006, with Tabor winning 28 of those games and going 14-4 both at home and on the road. The Lady Bluejays are currently on a five game win streak and look to extend that streak today, going up against Coach Rocky Lamar and his Threshers.

The Lady Bluejays enter tonight's matchup with an 8-2 overall record and a 5-0 record in conference play and are coming off a home win over Oklahoma Wesleyan on Wednesday. The Threshers come in with a 3-7 overall record and a 3-2 record in the KCAC and are trying to get their second conference win in a row after winning at Southwestern on Wednesday. While they aren't necessarily evenly matched on paper, both teams will still bring their best game in this fierce rivalry.

Having experienced this rivalry throughout his tenure at Tabor, Head Women's Basketball Coach Shawn Reed shared some thought from his view of the rivalry, Since I have been at Tabor, the rivalry game with Bethel has always been special. You can throw a team's record or how they have been recently playing out the window when Tabor and Bethel meet. This game brings out a special intensity for both teams and means so much to our respective alumni. We expect today's game to be like so many of the games before it in this rivalry; an intense competition that brings out the best in both teams. We will have to play well at both ends of the court if we want to be successful."

The Lady Bluejays are led in scoring by Alivia Owens, who is averaging 9.3 points per game and has a field goal percentage of 54.4%. Owens is a tough presence down in the paint so don't be surprised to see her get some looks from there.

Kendall Locke leads the Threshers shooting 48.6% and is averaging 13.8 points per game.

For those who can't make the game, it will be broadcast on the KCAC Network and live stats will be available here.

Tabor College is a Christ-centered institution located in Hillsboro, Kansas. The Bluejays are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and compete in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC).
